Privacy Policy

River (“River,” “we,” “us”) operates the family-organizer service at rivertogether.com. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. If you have questions, contact us at hello@rivertogether.com.

Information we collect

• Account information: your name and email address, handled through our authentication provider (Clerk).
• Household members: names, optional ages, roles, and colors you add for the people in your household. Young children are “managed profiles” with no login of their own.
• Phone numbers: the mobile numbers you associate with members, used to recognize inbound texts and to send confirmations.
• Content you create: calendar events, lists, chores, and bulletin notes.
• Inbound messages: the text of SMS or forwarded emails you send to River, and the structured result of parsing them.
• Display data: a device identifier and last-seen time for each screen you pair.
• Usage and security logs: an audit record of actions taken through the service.

How we use your information

• To provide the service — show your calendar, lists, chores, and notes on your household’s screens and companion app.
• To parse the texts and emails you send in, using Anthropic’s Claude, into structured items you can review.
• To send you SMS confirmations and replies related to your requests.
• To keep the service secure — enforce permissions, detect abuse, and maintain an audit trail.

SMS / text messaging

By providing a mobile number and texting River, you consent to receive SMS messages from River related to your household (for example, confirmations that an event or list item was added). Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply.

Reply STOP to any message to opt out at any time; reply HELP for help. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share your mobile phone number or SMS opt-in consent with third parties or affiliates for their own marketing or promotional purposes.

Service providers we use

We share data only with the providers that help us run River:

• Clerk — authentication and account management.
• Supabase — database and storage of your household’s data.
• Anthropic (Claude) — parsing the text of inbound messages into structured items. Message content is sent to Anthropic only to perform this parsing.
• Twilio — sending and receiving SMS.
• Vercel — application hosting.

These providers process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy commitments, and only to provide their service to us.

Children’s data

River is designed for parents and guardians to manage their household. Children are added by an adult as “managed profiles” and do not create accounts or provide information to us directly. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. A parent or guardian controls a managed profile and may edit or delete it at any time. If you believe a child has provided us information directly, contact us and we will delete it.

Data retention & deletion

We keep your data for as long as your household is active. You can delete individual items in the app, and you may request deletion of your account and your household’s data by emailing hello@rivertogether.com. We will delete or de-identify the data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain it to comply with law.

Security

Every household is isolated at the database level (row-level security), and access is scoped to the members of that household. Secrets are stored securely and never exposed in the app. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your family’s data.

Your choices

You can update or delete your data in the app, opt out of texts with STOP, and request account deletion by email. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal information; contact us to exercise them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service evolves. We will post the updated version here with a new “last updated” date.
